    Understanding Your Hair Restoration Options

Make informed decisions about your hair restoration journey. Learn about the differences between medical therapy, regenerative treatments, and surgical options to choose the best path forward.

    Male Hair Loss

    Male Pattern Baldness

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common form of hair loss in men, affecting approximately 50% by age 50. Understanding its progression is key to choosing the right treatment at the right time.

    What Causes It?

Male pattern baldness is driven by genetic sensitivity to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone derived from testosterone. DHT binds to receptors in hair follicles, causing them to shrink (miniaturize) over successive growth cycles until they produce only fine, vellus hairs — or stop producing hair entirely.

    The Norwood Scale

Hair loss in men follows predictable patterns classified by the Norwood Scale (Stages I–VII). It typically begins with a receding hairline at the temples and thinning at the crown, eventually progressing to extensive baldness across the top of the scalp while sparing the sides and back.

    Contributing Factors

While genetics are the primary driver, stress, poor nutrition, hormonal imbalances, certain medications, and lifestyle factors can accelerate hair loss. Smoking, for example, has been linked to increased DHT levels and reduced scalp blood flow.

    When to Act

Early intervention yields the best results. Medical therapy (Finasteride, Minoxidil) is most effective at slowing progression in early stages. For moderate to advanced loss, surgical restoration with ARTAS® robotic FUE can permanently restore natural-looking density.

    Where Are You?

Identify Your Stage & Treatment Path

Compare the images below to your own hair pattern to estimate your current stage on the Norwood Scale. Each stage maps to a recommended treatment approach.

    Early — Stage 2–3

Slight recession at temples, minimal crown thinning

    Recommended

Finasteride, Minoxidil, PRP, Red Light Therapy

    Moderate — Stage 3–5

Noticeable temple recession, visible crown thinning

    Recommended

Medical therapy + PRP + ARTAS® robotic FUE

    Advanced — Stage 5–7

Extensive baldness on top, only sides/back remain

    Recommended

ARTAS® robotic FUE + ongoing medical therapy
